5e does not have any rules for undead hunger, but it is a neat concept. I decided to use a twist on the idea: All undead are subject to physical
deterioration without a steady stream of animating power.
The walking dead slaves are repaired by their masters while liches and mummies sustain themselves with magic, but other undead must pursue their appropriate hungers and passions. Vampires drink blood, ghouls eat carrion, ghosts continue unfinished business, etc. In the absence of other sources of life, the hungry dead will cannibalize one another.
